A stage 2 tune would effectively be a custom map to go with hardware upgrades, such as exhaust intake, intercooler etc. Our GTD's will not benefit from an upgraded intake, and the only way to get decent gains from an exhaust would be to get rid of the DPF.
In our latest episode of Game of Golfs, we head to the quarter-mile drag strip for another Volkswagen sibling face-off. This time it's the 7.5 iteration of the #CarsAwards-winning Golf GTI versus the brand new turbodiesel-engined Golf GTD. Interestingly, the duelling Golfs offer the same peak torque figure of 350 Nm and tip the scales.

With the supremely capable GTI as a stablemate, VW has created a sporty feel for the GTD to mark it out from regular diesel-powered Golfs. Visually a discreet choice, the differences are most notable from the front, with the GTD gaining a GTI-esque nose, plus a subtle bodykit and GTI trademark large alloy wheels.
